Should I put my life on hold?

Enjoying Fukuoka

My walk across Japan is scheduled to begin next May.

It would be easy to put my life on hold until then. There seems to be too little time to start anything meaningful and little point in beginning something I may have to interrupt.

So should I just wait?

People in transition often live this way.

Life will begin when they leave the job, when they move, when they find love, when the difficult period ends.

Until then, life becomes a waiting room.

But can we afford to treat several months as disposable? Do any of us have enough time to postpone living fully until something else happens?

And what if the walk never happens?

The temptation to wait is understandable. But it is not harmless. Waiting can quickly turn into boredom, self-pity and paralysis, as though this part of life did not count.

The months before May are not an empty space between today and the walk.

They are my life now. The walk, however firmly planned, is still only a possible future.

The Perspective Shift

A future event can give the present direction. It should not take the present hostage.

Prepare for what comes next as though it will happen. But do not make the present depend on its arrival.

My walk may begin in May.

My life cannot wait for it.

Walk your talk,
Franck
