They did it. Why can’t I?

While walking across Europe, people often asked why I was doing it.

When I told them I was trying to build a social-media business, they looked perplexed.

They understood walking as an adventure.
They understood business as selling a product or working for someone.

They struggled to connect the two.

Yet three people in my immediate family have already built successful social-media businesses:

• My son built a channel over ten years and retired at 25.
• My wife created a popular podcast about menopause that she is successfully monetising.
• My daughter entered a niche she knew nothing about and built a profitable channel within two years.

Three successes in a family of four do not guarantee a fourth, but they make the possibility difficult to dismiss.

Why am I interested in doing it?

Because the opportunity extends far beyond people hoping to become wealthy influencers.

Most people I met on the road earned less than $3,000 a month. An additional $1,000 could materially improve their lives.

The same may be true for retirees or stay-at-home parents who see few realistic ways to generate additional income.

For someone seeking an additional $1,000+ rather than an influencer fortune, social media makes the opportunity accessible without requiring substantial starting capital.

Instead, much of the investment is made through time and effort.

The Perspective Shift

Social media offers a low-capital way to turn what you know or care about into additional income.

Nothing is guaranteed.

But the probability of success increases when you:

• Are clear that you are building a business.
• Learn how the different social-media business models work.
• Choose a niche you care about enough to stay with it.
• Persevere when the results are disappointing.
• Keep testing, learning and iterating until you find what works.

Can I become the fourth?
I do not know yet.

There is only one meaningful way to find out.
