¨Why didn’t you choose that?¨

Bar conversation near the border between Czechia and Germany
An evening near Tachov, Czech Republic

The evening before crossing from Czechia into Germany, I was in a bar showing someone the route I planned to walk the following day.

He studied my map and pointed to another trail through the mountains. It looked better than the route I had planned.

“Why didn’t you choose that?” he asked.

“Because my maps didn’t show it.”

He assumed I had seen both routes and chosen one.

I had not.
I had not rejected his suggested trail.
It had never been one of my choices because I never saw it.

The same thing happens in life.

Why didn’t I leave a relationship sooner?
Why didn’t I choose a different career?
Why didn’t I try another way of living?

Sometimes we saw the alternative and decided it was not worth its price.
But sometimes it never appeared as a real alternative.

Our understanding of what is possible is shaped by our experience, our environment and the assumptions we treat as facts.

The quality of a decision depends partly on the possibilities visible when we make it.

That raises a question:
What paths might be missing from our maps right now?

I have rebuilt WTFT around to help investigate that question:

None of these tools tells us which path to choose.
They help us see more paths before we choose.

The Perspective Shift

Better choices do not begin with choosing. They begin with seeing more possibilities.

Explore what might be possible with the new WTFT.

Walk your talk,
